Domain authority

What is domain authority?

Domain authority, also sometimes called “thought leadership,” is the authority of a domain or website which has relevance over a specific industry or a subject matter. The domain authority is a website score developed by “Moz,” which determines its ranking factor and ranking in SERP results. Domain authority directly affects your website ranking, so the more your website has the domain authority, the higher your website ranks in SERP results.

The domain rating ranges from 0 to 100. The higher the domain rating, the stronger your website’s authority is. Let’s see that with an example.

The above data is gained from the ahrefs tool, which is an online SEO tool. The domain rating of “techradar.com” is 90, according to ahrefs. Now, this is a higher domain rating, which helps the site to rank higher. There are many data like URL rating, backlinks, and referring domains, which are also important.

How to know “domain rating”?

Various online tools help you to know domain ratings. There are paid tools like Moz and ahrefs, which allows you to see any website’s domain rating. I mostly use ahrefs tools since it gives pretty accurate ratings and data. And top of that, it is also easy to use. KNow that these tools are paid tools. There might be some tools that are free to use, but the data might not be correct. So I advise you to use ahrefs or Moz tool.

Just search for what website you want to know the domain rating for. For example, if you’re going to find the domain rating of “Scoopwhoop,” all you have to do is type the ScoopWhoop main URL or copy the URL and paste it in the search bar and then click search. And then you are given several data like URL rating and domain rating etc. These tools help analyze your competitor’s website and know their ranking methods.

How does ahrefs calculate” domain rating”?

Two main features determine the domain rating of a site. The quality backlinks and quantity backlinks are essential for determining your website’s domain rating. I will go step by step through the “domain rating” procedure of ahrefs.

Step 1:

The first thing the Ahrefs tool does is it looks for the unique domain links which have been given to the targeted domain.

Step 2:

Then, it checks the authority of the domain, which gave links to the targeted domain. Not any backlink will increase your domain rating. The other site should also have a good domain rating score.

Step 3:

The next step is Ahrefs checks how many unique links the referring domains link to. Now, this is a gradual chain reaction that ultimately gives you a perfect score.

Step 4:

After the tool has done its algorithm of calculating every referral site’s domain rating score and quality of the backlinks, it has a raw domain rating score.

Step 5:

With the obtained score, the Ahrefs tool gives you a score on a 100 scale according to the raw DR score.

This is the process the Ahrefs tool undergoes to give you an unbiased domain rating score.
